Welcome to the new BC Dragonflies web site!
I’ll be adding content to this site this week – check back soon. This web site tells you everything you need to know about dragonflies in British Columbia, Canada!
Both dragonflies and damselflies belong to the Order Odonata. This site focuses on insects in the suborder Anisoptera (better know as dragonflies) and on insects in the suborder Zygoptera (better know as damselflies).
In addition to information about dragonflies in BC, there is also general information about what dragonflies eat, where they live, and much more. New pages about reproduction and a BC checklist have been added. The Games page has also recently been updated with two on-line puzzles. Choose one of the links to the left and read on!
A downloadable checklist of BC damselflies and dragonflies is now available. Comments appreciated!
Check out the Yahoo! Group devoted to discussing BC Dragonflies.
I’m currently working on a photo gallery of BC dragonflies and damselflies. If you’d like to contribute images to this project please let me know!
Ian Lane has generously allowed me to use his fantastic images of a dragonfly changing from nymph to adult form (see the life cycle page).
